The Brute Squad

Rec slo-pitch is my most anticipated thing about spring. I’ve played on a few rag-tag teams over the years until my pal Sam Flynn and I decided to up the ante. Sure, we’d still be playing in the lowest division, but at least we would have the satisfaction of knowing we spent more time tracking stats, building websites, and creating custom score sheets than any of our opponents.

2015 – 2017

The branding process was fairly extensive (for a slo-pitch team), and the first thing we needed was a name. We borrowed from the classic film The Princess Bride where in an iconic scene, Fezzik (played by Andre the Giant) announces that he is on the brute squad. Billy Crystal amends the statement: “You are the brute squad.” And so, we became The Brute Squad.

Logo Development

Before becoming The Brute Squad, we were called “Classic Jim's Ball Club.” Since making the jump to something more brutish, we’ve always tried to keep things up to date with new visuals wherever we could find opportunity.

As the old saying goes: “A ballclub is only as good as their website.” Of course nobody says that, but we felt it necessary to use the a website to keep the team informed as to playing times, field locations, and of course a few statistical tidbits including home run count and on-base percentage.

We kept things fresh by creating new banners with the coming of every new season.
